Library Project: In Other Words

I didn't have a whole lot of free time while I was in Portland. Outside of work stuff, I really only had time to go to Voodoo Doughnuts and In Other Words, a feminist community center. Even though it's very much a bookstore (you might have seen is parodied on Portlandia), I'm including it here because there was a lending library inside of it.

There was this interactive art piece that I had fun exploring (and you know how I swoon at fine prints & typewriters).

I really enjoyed spending time here. There's a rad zine section, lots of trinkets, clothes, and other wares for sale, and tons of cool revolutionary stuff adorning the walls. The bathroom was kind of lovely in that it was filled with affirmations of different sorts posted throughout.  You can tell as soon as you walk in that they put a tremendous amount of care and attention into making this a safe space for anyone who might pass through the doors. There are couches and board games so you can just hang out, play, and read. I'm really glad that we took the time to come here, even though it was a short visit.
